The mailer: the shipping label is part of the design
Leave room for the real journey, including the large white rectangle that arrives at dispatch.

Begin with the label
A mailer often looks different by the time it reaches the customer. Shipping labels, routing marks and handling wear become part of its surface. Reserve a label zone deliberately rather than allowing it to cover the main identity by chance.
Ask the fulfilment team which label size and position they actually use. If the pack may travel through several services, review representative examples. The design should accommodate the operation rather than rely on every packer making an aesthetic decision.
Use the reliable surfaces
The top may be the most visible area in a mockup, but another face may remain clearer in transit. A repeated small identifier can be more resilient than one large logo. Balance that repetition with a calm overall layout.
The inside can offer a cleaner communication moment after opening. Keep it useful and concise. A clear packing arrangement and a readable instruction often contribute more than a long welcome message.
Test the opening and return
Watch someone open the mailer without guidance. Check whether the product is close to the opening path and whether the package can be reused for a return if that is part of the business.
A closure that works well during packing may feel different to the recipient. Ask about both sides of the interaction. If a separate return strip or instruction is used, make its purpose clear so it is not accidentally consumed during the first opening.
Try this in the studio
Apply the real shipping label to the prototype and photograph it. This should be a normal review image, not an exception hidden from the presentation. Pack the product and practise the full sequence from assembly to opening.
Record where the design is obscured and where the user hesitates. Then adjust the layout or structure. A mailer is successful when it communicates through the journey, not only before dispatch.
